Giving Thanks

Eileen Hull

I really wish there was a little more time in between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Store decor seems to go from Halloween straight to Christmas. I think Thanksgiving is getting short-changed! We should dedicate more time to giving thanks for all we have, don’t you think? I wanted something to hang on the wall to remind me of all the things I am thankful for as the hustle and bustle of the holiday season entered full swing. I chose the Duetica DT Woodwynds font for the sentiment. This font has 15 variations for each and every letter, starting with a plain serif, each successive version contains more and more swashes as you click through them. The good thing about this system is that if it starts looking too swirly (really? is there such a thing?), you can intersperse your phrase or title with a balance of undecorated and decorated letters creating a truly unique final project that pleases your eye. Stickles glitter glue was added on top of the letter forms to accentuate them. A fairly heavy line was applied to the larger letter strokes and then spread out to thinner areas with a toothpick. I finished the project with some 3D flowers cut out with Sizzix dies.

SUPPLIES:
Frame and mat
kraft paper
Stickles glitter glue
Thermoweb Zots.
Sizzix 3D Flower die designed by Beth Reames.
Other accents include dimensional leaf stickers.

Warmest Winter Wishes

Niki Meiners

As an avid crafter, I am always on the lookout for creative gift containers that I can alter in some fashion. When I saw the Laughing Cow Cheese containers I knew that I wanted to save them for something crafty. When I started to wrap my presents I had a few gift cards that needed more than the envelope they arrived in. (Yes, I am one of those crazy people who are finished with their holiday shopping already and I try to have the gifts wrapped by Thanksgiving.) I started to dig through my box of containers and that is when I hit the mother-load. I found three Laughing Cow Cheese boxes. They were the perfect size and disguised the tell-tale rectangular shape of the gift cards. It is always fun to keep them guessing up to the last second. I chose the Duetica DT Woodwynds font in light blue because it just said swirling winter snowflakes to me. To get paper that continued the theme, I went to my Basic Grey Christmas stash. Everything came together at once. A little ink on the container, a tag, an organza bow and some pop-dots to make the sentiment stand out and I was all set. One gift done and a few dozen more on their way.

Springtime Wishes

Kristie Taylor

I love this photo. I can feel the warmth of the sun, the promise of new life beginning. I can see the little dandelion seeds taking flight, caught up in a gentle breeze. I used a number of layers of paper to set the stage for this page and added die cut flowers and vines. I was looking for the perfect font to carry this theme and found it in Duetica Lettering Arts Studio’s DT Woodwynds font. The font lets you add just the right amount of swirls and vines to each and every letter. To complete the project, I printed the title on cardstock with orange ink.

Fall Blessings Card

Christy Monge

With frost definitely on the pumpkin, now is the perfect time to send a note to someone who has bless your life. My niece is such a blessing to have in our family this year. Her arms are open to share bountiful blessings for the season. It was a snap to create this custom autumn card using the Duetica Free Fall Digital Kit. The kit has a wide variety of digital papers and embellishments to choose from. I especially like the “torn edge” graphic that you can easily add to any paper background. For the titles I used the Duetica DT Woodwynds font. I love how the swirls and curls add motion to my words.

Happy Thanksgiving Card

Suzanne Sergi

Being thankful does not stop with the turkey. It is always a great idea to send a thank you note to the host for your Thanksgiving feast. I created this Thanksgiving note with classic fall colors, and used the DT Woodwynds font for the title. This swishes and swirls on this imaginative font reminded me leaves swirling in an autumn wind. I cannot wait to use it on a gratitude journal as well.

Forever

Becky Conley

When my friend Megan got married, I wanted to capture the moment and the forever commitment on a single page. The photo portrays just how much they love each other. I used the Duetica DT Woodwynds font to express that this love will last forever. If you look closely, you can see that I used alternate versions of the same font on the double letters, see the “e” and “r”s.  I printed the fonts directly to the 12×12 background paper, then accented the letters with small dots of Ice Stickles. Finally, I attached the fabric flowers with clear rhinestone brads.

Dancing in the Rain

Candice Windham

When the rain begins to fall, I often miss those days of summer with the warm sun caressing my cheeks. I recently came across this great quote from Phillip Cox that gave me a whole new perspective on enjoying each and every day the Lord has made. For this wall art, I used the Duetica DT Woodwynds font. The many swashes and vines add real life to the quotation. This font is so versatile that I also used it for the border by repeating the letter “x.”

Pumpkins

Christy Monge

Ava has that perfect round “pumpkin face!” We all just can’t resist her. She is our little pumpkin! This digital page was created using the Duetica 2011 promotional Fall kit. The kit is fabulous! It has lots of textures and embellishments to choose from. The ragged torn edge texture is very versatile. You can add it to the edge of any background paper. I chose the Duetica DT Tin Whistle font for the titles and text on this page. This font has a rustic fall festival feel, and I love all the alternates it has for ever letter. It really added some spark to my finished page.

Missouri Weekend

Candice Windham

I love fall. Frost on the pumpkin. The World Series. Special times and holidays every month. This month we had a weekend getaway to the Frohna Harvest Festival in Missouri. We so enjoyed touring the homestead homes and listening to blue grass. For this digital 2 page spread, I used the Duetica 2011 promotional Fall kit. The burlap textures were perfect for that back country feeling, and all the included embellishments were simply darling. I used a combination of Duetica DT Tin Whistle and Piper fonts. These fonts are amazing. They have so many alternate letters to choose from, they make every title look like it was custom made, except you do it yourself in only a couple of minutes.

Birdie

Eileen Hull

I decided to make a Christmas ornament for my yearly gift for family and friends this year. When I designed the Sizzix ScoreBoard Bird die, I was thinking what a cool Christmas ornament it would make. But you can also use it for bridal and baby showers, empty nesters, Happy Bird- day (sorry- know that was cheesy but couldn’t resist), tweeting, and general everyday cards. Birdies are always in style! I accessed the Duetica Lettering Arts Studio and selected the DT Mandolyn font. This is my very favorite font and is perfect for reflecting the sentiment I chose for the ornament, “Peace on Earth 2012”. It is so easy and fun to use the software to create the perfect collection of letterforms for your message. The beauty of this system is that there are 15-20 options for each letter both upper and lower case. There are great swashes and for beginning and ending words. Notice in the photo that there are 2 forms of e in “Peace”. This is an extra added cool touch for using text in your projects.
